My birth story

My story starts with the birth of my son Harrison who is now 17month old. I had an amazing pregnancy and loved every minuet of being pregnant. The last month of my pregnancy I had a pre eclampsia scare and was admitted to hospital after a routine midwife home visit. My BP had shot up which was worrying Because I had low to normal BP all the way through. I spent a week in hospital and in that time they found that I also had choliostasis. So I was sent home ( I moaned and moaned to go home) with the deal I would have Christmas at home and new year in hospital to be induced .

Me and my hubby arrived at hospital at 8am 30th December 2010 with the car seat fitted and hopes we would soon be a family. The hospital was over run and the midwives and doctors were over stretched so I didn't have my first pestin till 8pm that evening. During the monitoring time after Harrison's heart rate kept dipping, the midwives put it down to the baby playing with the cord and I was left. The following day ( new years eve) they managed to see me early and give me the pestin early again Harrison's heart struggled with it this time a doctor was called but they decided he was playing with the cord again. They applied the last pestin at 6pm the doctor said he didn't him that this one would work again harrison heart dipped and i was told not to eat anything encase but that was told i can have my tea.

3am new years day my plug and waters went followed quickly by strong contractions coming thick and fast by 4am the were only 4 minuets apart lasting 2 minuets. I was on my own because I was still on the post natal ward and hubby wasn't allowed to be with me because of visiting time. There was no room for me on the labour ward either so no one would examine me.

By 8am I was finally moved to the delivery ward and hubby was allowed to join me. I was examined and was 5 cm dilated. I was told it would be best to have an epidural with what had been going on the last few days encase I needed a section I would be prepped. I agreed anything to help get my baby here safely. I have to say for someone who was dead against epidurals I loved it the next few hours was lovely I got some rest the midwife put some music on and dimmed the lights It was lovely not how I envisioned it would be like after the horrible contractions i had in early labour. I was put on a drip to increase my contraptions and thanks to the epidural as they were coming junk and fast I was lay back relaxed.

Unfortunately Harrison wasn't doing the same he was struggling in between contraction. At 2.30pm the doctor decided to take a sample from Harrison head, this had to be the most embarrassing thing I've ever had to do while the doctor had a light on his head to collect some blood from harrison while he was still in my tummy my legs were spread high in stirrups that was bad enough but when my waters went again they burst all I've the doctor and all the poor midwives assisting I was mortified.

I was soon brought back to earth when I was informed that both machine to check Harrison blood were broke and that an emergency section was the best a safest option. I was wheeled into surgery crying my eyes out for reason I have no idea maybe it was the realisation that this I actually happening. My husband jack was told to wait in the room an some will come for him he have me a kiss and he also started crying. While I was being prepped they decided that it would be best if I was put to sleep and before I could think about it I was way with the fairies.

During this time jack was informed he could not go in and that things wasn't looking good and they advised him to phone my parents. Scary for a man who wife and child are going through all this.

When I was woken I was told that I had a beautiful baby boy ( we didn't know the sex) and that he was a good weight and born at 3pm I know the midwife meant well but this news coming From a stranger while I had no idea what was going on did upset me. I was wheeled in to my original room to see the best sight in he world the proudest daddy hold his baby boy.

That's isn't where the story ends but I'll save that for another blog. Think here a lot here to try and digest as it is.
